My brides wish to use their mom’s wedding veil but void the rigid horsehair frame and depth of glued heavy lace. Honoring Mom on My Wedding Day
“My mom and I talked about the wedding a lot once she was diagnosed with cancer. She told me that if I wanted, I could cut up her dress and use any part of it whenever I decided to get married. After she passed, I didn’t have it in me to cut up her dress. So, I decided to wear her veil instead in honor of her.”
In 1982, Emily’s mom wore a classic lace Juliet-style headpiece with a two-tier veil.

I restyled the lace from her mom’s Juliet Cap into individual bridal accessories that Emily could style however she chose on her wedding day. Her mom’s pouffy two-tier veil became a beautiful single-tier cascading veil.
Emily’s dad, Mark, was with her every step of the way through the design process.

You Can Wear My Veil
“My mom stopped by my house one day, almost jokingly tossed her veil at me, and said something like, “Here you go. Do with this what you want. You can wear it!” When she left, I started thinking how special it would be to create something from it. After that, I went down a rabbit hole online to see what could be done with it and found Marie!’”
Becky’s vision was to restyle her mom’s wedding veil only. But then I suggested repurposing her mom’s headpiece into beautiful, delicate hairpins that could be worn again beyond her wedding day.

“My mom has been talking about using her veil since my brother got married in 2013. After I got engaged, she asked if I wanted to use her veil. I asked her for pictures to see if it would fit my vision for my wedding day. However, it was definitely not my style, and I couldn’t picture how it would work.”
Erica told me she was going to have a church ceremony followed by a beach ceremony and reception. She wore a simple dress for the church and a gown for the beach.
