I am finding more brides wish to experience the sentimental moment of walking down the aisle in something their mother wore on her wedding day. In the late eighties and early nineties, wearing your bridal headpiece across the forehead was in fashion. Most headpieces were finished by attaching a veil with a pouf.

Brittany’s Vintage Headpiece Restyle
Donna Giardano married on May 20th, 1990.
Ever since Brittany was a little girl, she envisioned wearing her mom’s headpiece. She loved the detail and beading and hoped to incorporate them into her wedding one day.
“I researched places online and saw that Headpiece.com had wonderful reviews. When I came into the store, I felt extremely welcomed. I showed Marie the piece and explained my ideas. She showed me examples of headpieces and explained the process in detail and the endless possibility to restyle the piece. At this moment, I knew Marie was an expert, and I felt 100% confident that she would create a beautiful piece with my mother’s headpiece.”
“I loved this vintage headpiece. There were so many directions to go with restyling this piece. The ideas were spinning in my head! Brittany decided on a set of simple hairpins and also to surprise her sister with an accessory. I spotted the beautiful beaded sequin rondelles and knew they would be perfect to create something gorgeous for her Maid of Honor.”
It is a very time-consuming process to deconstruct old headpieces and veils. Brittany wished to use the pearls on her mother’s veil to add to her new Anna style cathedral veil. Removing the pearls took hours due to the glue on them and many hours to reapply them.
“The day we picked up the final pieces, my mother was in tears with how well the overall headpiece turned out. She could see her vintage pearls embellished on a veil that I was going to wear down the aisle.”
“I knew I wanted to create something special for my sister, but I did not know what exactly. Marie really helped me design and choose the best piece for my sister that matched the color of her dress perfectly. When I gave the piece to my sister, she was in tears. She said, “A little piece of mom is with me too!” She thought it was beautiful and decided to wear an updo to compliment the piece.”

“I wanted a vintage look that included pearl work. Originally, I was going to wear my mother’s headpiece as is, but after seeing all the possibilities, I knew I wanted a cathedral veil with my mother’s pearls. I am someone who is simple, and I felt like this showed my style and personality but with a piece of my mother.”
“The hairpins that Marie created for me were absolutely breathtaking. Everything about my mother’s headpiece was shown in a single hairpin. The veil was so sheer and light; it looked so beautiful as you could see the detail of the hairpins right through.”

I am in love with this photo! I love a photographer who captures the little things. Those tiny pearls are thirty-two years old and meant so much to Brittany and her mom. Photographer Courtney Simpson has an eye for detail that is not so evident to others.

Melissa’s Vintage Headpiece Restyle

“I wanted to incorporate my mom in some way. Initially, I was trying to think of a way to incorporate a piece of her wedding dress. Then my friend, Daniella, suggested using my mom’s headpiece.”
Melissa modeled her mom’s 1988 headpiece and veil.
Daniella came to Headpiece.com to repurpose her beloved mom’s headpiece for her March wedding. Her dad and sister came for the consultation too! I loved this bride! Her vintage headpiece restyle is among my favorites.
“My best friend, Daniella, found Marie and explained what incredible work she does. Daniella told me how she was repurposing her mom’s headpiece but I couldn’t visualize it. After she picked it up, I went to her house to see it, and was amazed at how gorgeous it was!”
This piece was challenging to create because of the size of the elements. My goal was to eliminate bulk. The result was gorgeous and didn’t resemble 80’s bridal fashion at all.
Melissa knew she wanted her headpiece redesigned as a backpiece. With her permission, I removed some vintage elements during her consultation to figure out the placement and size of the headpiece in her hair.
“I have a very difficult time envisioning. I am very visual and need to see everything together, especially when taking something vintage, big, and dated and making it into something delicate and timeless. The final design was exactly how I imagined while also exceeding my vision.”
