What It’s Like to Work With Marie Hunt at Headpiece.com
What I love about the many projects I have worked on is that with each new inquiry comes a new experience for me and an unforgettable one for my bride. Yes, the bride is looking for an answer to a problem. Whether it is “Can this be restored?” or "Can you modernize my mom’s headpiece?”, they are also looking for reassurance, someone to understand their emotions, and a skilled artisan who will take care of their precious heirloom as though it were their own. I make sure working with me feels just as meaningful as the finished design.

I met with Robyn virtually (with a few tears) to discuss recreating her mom’s beloved wedding crown. While her story deserves more attention than just a few sentences, this project became “one of my loves.” To summarize, her mom’s crown was deconstructed by another family member without her mom’s knowledge. I was tasked with recreating the crown from a blurry black-and-white photo. This beloved crown means more to her family than you could ever know, and it will be featured in an upcoming blog post.
“For decades, Mom’s crown was much more than a wedding accessory. It was a cherished family heirloom that held deep sentimental value for my mother and most of our family members. It represented love, memories, tradition, and a very special moment in her life.”
Meeting with Robyn virtually to hear her story and see if I can help her.
“With only a sad box containing the original beads and a grainy wedding photograph from 1961, Marie took on what seemed like an impossible task.”
The base of the crown was intact but required restoration.
The original beads were collected in a bowl.
Recreating Robyn’s mother's pearl-and-crystal crown took hours of study and precision to develop a plan to design it exactly as it was in 1961. The beads had to be counted and an engineering sketch drawn. It was only then that I could begin to design the crown from scratch.
“When you are asking someone to recreate something so deeply personal, you’re not just placing an order; you’re inviting them into your story. You are sharing memories, emotions, and the legacy of someone you love. That kind of work requires more than talent; it requires heart.”
Why Heirloom Restoration Is In High Demand
There are endless reasons why my brides choose bridal restoration of a family wedding veil, crown, or headpiece. I have never heard the same story twice, and this individuality is part of what makes each piece so meaningful. Brides search extensively for the right person to work on their family wedding heirlooms. The volume of inquiries we receive from brides hoping to bring their mom’s or grandmother's vintage piece back to life with love and intention is astounding!
“The demand for my work continues to grow. This has caused me to be more selective about the design projects I accept. It also means I have to tell more brides, “No!” ”

In a world where everything happens instantly — with the swipe of a finger — we long for family connection; the stories of old, when times seemed simpler. I see it when a bride brings me her grandmother's wedding crown or her mother's bridal veil. Looking at black-and-white photos in your grandmother's wedding album makes you imagine her wedding day in color. There is something so pure and beautiful about wanting to recapture those moments of love on your own wedding day. Restoring or restyling a family wedding heirloom is an intimate experience for my bride that no one else will ever share.
Haley drove three hours from New York State to bring me her grandmother’s 63-year-old crown and talk about restoring it.
“Marie was the only one I trusted to restore my grandmother’s crown. I knew she was the right person for the job because of her extenxive experience restoring vintage pieces, her attention to detail, her care for maintaining the essence of each piece, and her deep knowledge of vintage pieces. All of this is evident from her many blog posts.”
“I think brides today are looking for unique ways to honor their loved ones, and love the look and quality of vintage pieces.”
Ashlee wanted to wear her mom’s wedding crown, but it didn’t work with her hairstyle. In addition to designing Ashlee’s wedding veil, I made alterations to the crown, cleaned all of the crystals, and created custom fastening points to work specifically with her braided hairstyle.
“I saw Marie’s previous work, and the stories that she told alongside showcasing her art. It was clear that not only is Marie immensely talented, but she also cares deeply about each piece and I knew she would pour that care into my mom’s. When Marie asked about our vision for my mom’s headpiece, I knew we were in expert hands; she brought up ideas I hadn’t even considered.”
The Difference You’ll See At Headpiece.com
You won’t find shortcuts at Headpiece.com. There are so many facets of working with vintage pieces that are unpredictable. Without knowing the precise history of how the piece was originally made, it is often difficult to estimate how long it will take to complete the restoration and design.

“It is my job as a designer and restorer to uncover the mysteries of these old pieces to determine the best and most effective way to restore each element before the design process can even begin. I don’t know of any other person who will hand clean every vintage pearl and crystal to remove glue residue and hairspray. It is details like this that sets my work apart!”
Dirty vintage crystals ridden with hairspray from the 60s often have a foggy orange film, leaving most brides stunned to find out they are actual Swarovski crystals. I hand-clean them, restoring their original beautiful and glistening luster.
Hand-cleaning tarnished Rocaille beads is the most tedious process there is. It took me years to devise a technique to rid the dark black from these beautiful vintage glass beads. So many of my brides believe the beads were originally black, but this is not the case.

“My vintage bridal designs are sculpted to fit the bride’s hairstyle, with precise measurements and fastening points. I want the designs I create to be effortless for the hairstylist to put in and secure, and to last the entire wedding day for my bride.”

The Promises I Make To My Brides
My approach with my clients is straightforward. My work is detailed and tedious to perform. I make sure expectations are clear during our consultation, from the timing to the final design concept.

“I have never come across a piece I was unable to restore or restyle, though I have been upfront with several brides, telling them that saving their heirloom would require a miracle. I am completely honest about the condition of a piece and what might be a challenge, but I always end the conversation the same way. ‘If anyone can do it, it is me!’ And all of those ‘miracle’ projects were successful restorations in the end.”
This beaded crown (featured on our May BLOG) meant the world to my bride and her mom. It was in the most dire and fragile condition of any I have ever worked to restore. I wasn't sure if I would be able to give it the structure it needed to be worn again.
